People of all ages can be affected by swollen legs for all sorts of reasons. Medical conditions, foot and ankle injuries, pregnancy or the side effects of certain medication can all cause legs to swell.

If your legs are swollen it is recommended that you avoid wearing socks or stockings which have tight bands around the ankles or calves. It is important that your socks and hosiery do not constrict circulation as this can make the swelling worse as well as being very uncomfortable. Cosyfeet’s range of extra roomy socks and hosiery are made with extra material in the feet and leg parts. They are also specially designed so that they don’t pinch, squeeze or dig into swollen feet and ankles.

Alternatively, your GP may be able to prescribe compression stockings. They are specially designed to apply pressure to your lower legs, helping to maintain blood flow and reduce discomfort and swelling.
